Ask Your Commissioners The Tough Questions

1. Why is the scope of the Tourism Advisory Board and the Tourism Department limited to just the one-third of OT funds to be spent on Promotions?

2. What are the County’s objections to CCA’s suggestions to have an open and business-like process to develop and review ideas for use of OT TRE funds together with the Tourism business community of property owners, realtors, business operators and service providers that together generate the more than $400 million in annual tourist spending?

3. What are the County’s objections to CCA’s request to openly document and evaluate each candidate project for TRE funding on the basis of the TRE criteria: - how the project will attract tourists and business travelers, - how many tourists and business travelers are projected to use it - how much of an increase in lodging and other facilities is projected - how much additional tax revenues will be generated

4. What are the County’s objections to CCA’s request to have an open review and dialog with the tourism community of long term plans for OT spending developed by tourism industry groups, such as the 75 page, ten-year OT spending plan developed by CCA with input from several hundred tourism property and business owners? That plan was developed over a three-month period in 2018 and was sent to the County with a request to discuss. Internal correspondence made public by the County reveals that Tourism Department staff viewed the plan favorably, but the County refused to even discuss it with the community.

5. What are the County’s objections to CCA’s request to keep records of how many tourists and business travelers actually use TRE projects once they are completed and how much additional tourist and business traveler revenues are generated in proportion to the on-going operations and maintenance costs for the project?

These seem to be reasonable requests, but the County’s refusal to even discuss them is the fundamental reason why CCA had to file the lawsuit.
